Math Pal (mathpal.com.au) is an online maths site for students and teachers in Years 7 to 12. This page explains what we collect and what we do with it. If you have a question, email info@mathpal.com.au.

What we collect

Account details: your first name, last name, email address, whether you are a student or a teacher, and a scrambled copy of your password. We cannot read your password. If you add a link to a profile picture, we keep that too.
Learning records: your quiz results, XP, streaks and the classes you have joined.
Messages: messages sent between teachers and students on the site.
Google sign-in: if you sign in with Google, Google sends us your name and email address.
Contact messages: what you write to us and the email address you give us.
Tutor applications: if you apply to tutor, your name, subject, rate and picture link. These show on the Tutors page.
Site use: we use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and what kind of device is used.
Cookies: one cookie keeps you signed in. Google Analytics uses its own cookies. Your browser also remembers your light or dark theme.

What we use it for

To run your account and show your progress.
To let teachers see the work of students in their classes.
To let a student's quiz report be shared with a parent through a private link.
To reply when you contact us, and to send password reset emails.
To keep the site secure and work out how to improve it.

We do not sell your information.

Who else can see it

Teachers can see the work of students in their classes.
Google handles Google sign-in and Google Analytics. Google may process this information outside Australia.
Our web hosting provider stores the site and its database.
Companies that supply parts of our pages: our pages load styles, fonts and scripts from Tailwind, Cloudflare, Google Fonts, jsDelivr, Stripe and Transparent Textures. Your browser connects to them to fetch these files, so they can see your internet address. They do not get your account details.

Apart from these, we only share information with anyone else if the law requires it.

Students

Math Pal is used by school students. If you are under 15, ask a parent, guardian or teacher before you create an account.

Keeping it safe

The site uses an encrypted connection, and passwords are stored in a scrambled form. No website is perfectly secure, so please use a password you do not use anywhere else.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and learning records while your account is open. To close your account and delete your records, email info@mathpal.com.au.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information by emailing info@mathpal.com.au.

Complaints

Please email us first and we will try to fix it. If you are not happy with the result, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
